Yesterday's Speaker

The speaker yesterday talked about his service in Vietnam and his life afterward. He also talked about the letter he wrote in 2004 about John Kerry's service controversy. I admire him for his courage to go out against the public and get the truth out there. I also admire him because he was in the war. I'm not saying i like the war or anything but to go out there and see all the horrible things that happened in Vietnam, and to fight for your country, really says something to me.

It took a lot of courage to go over to Vietnam, especially if you were over there fighting for a war you didn't beleive in. Jim Russell's memories of being in those swiftboats, made of aluminum, speeding up the river, essentailly, sitting ducks in the water, were jarring for me. It reminded me of scenes from Apocalypse Now. We have that film in the library, if oyu want to borrow it. Pretty disturbing film, showing the devastation of a country, and people's metal health, amoung other issues.
