Deforestation. WTF

The deforestation occurring across the world, particularly in Russia, Canada and Brazil is a tragedy on epic proportions. 12 million hectares are cleared annually. An area equal to 20 football fields is lost every minute! Wo. Not only does this wreak the ecosystems that are built around forests, but throws off the carbon and water cycles. Currently one third of the worlds c02 is absorbed by the Amazon, yet with the rampant deforestation there global warming goes faster and faster. We need to encourage friendlier building and agricultural methods, and stop the demand for old growth wood.
