Heres what i really just don't understand, why would we invest millions upon millions in the oil companies when we could reduce our dependence by simply even half of that money towards oil alternatives. By fighting war in the middle east we are spending billions of dollars each year. This war is arguably only about oil, and if we invested billions in hydrogen energy, wind energy, or even hydro energy there would be no reason to be sending soldiers to war. Our high dependence is not only impacting our economy and lives, but the environment around us. Polar ice caps are melting leaving polar bears stranded, only to die of starvation. It still amazes me that our government is so corrupt that we would rather thicken our wallets that save our planet.
